Instrument needle valve widely used in many industries, Mac-Weld high pressure FD-LOK Instrument needle valve provide quality and reliable function to throttle, regulate and isolate gaseous and aggressive non-viscous liquid services. Mac-Weld Gauge Root Valves offer multifuction capability to isolate, calibrate and vent gauge, pressure switches and static instrument applications.
Instrument needle valves incorporate high quality needle valves designed to operate at pressures up to 6000 psig with standard PTFE gland packing. The packing is positioned below the stem threads to ensure no contact between system process and the stem threads. The upper gland body is tightened and secured into position by a lock nut. The lower gland body is directly screwed into the component body and secured into place to prevent accidental loosening of the gland body during operation.

Since flow rates are low and many turns of the valve stem are required to completely open or close, high pressure needle valves are not used for simple shutoff applications.
Since the orifice is small and the force advantage of the fine-threaded stem is high, needle valves are usually easy to shut off completely, with merely "finger-tight" pressure. The spindle and/or seat of a needle valve, especially one made from brass, are easily damaged by excessive turning force when shutting off the flow.
Small, simple needle valves are often used as bleed valves in water-heating applications.
Unlike a ball valve or valves with a rising stem, it is not easy to tell from examining the handle position whether the valve is open or closed.
